We are the Lions Racing Team – a student club of the Technical University of Braunschweig with about 50 members who work together to develop and build autonomous electric racing cars within the Formula Student regulations and to participate in competitions with them. Founded in 2000, we are one of the oldest German teams.
The 2021/22 season has presented us with a new, particularly strong challenge. With a completely revised vehicle concept, all electrical systems would also have to be redeveloped. To make good use of this opportunity, we decided early in the season to redefine our system design philosophy. It is now called “Compact, Modular, Maintainable”. Among other things, this has influenced our circuit board designs – we have installed a total of 56 of them in the new vehicle. That’s 20 more than in the previous ones, yet the total area has decreased by 9%. You can see our progress in pictures 1 and 2.
Unfortunately, no new design comes without little problems to pick out and fix. Most of the time these are fixable on existing PCBs, but sometimes new revisions occur. With the help of the high-quality service of Eurocircuits, where the new PCBs are also delivered at short notice, we were able to carry out such a replacement even shortly before the first competitions.
We thank Eurocircuits for their long support in the fast and high quality production of our circuit boards, which enables us to get even more performance out of our race cars!
