Electric Superbike Twente: Building Vector-ST
Allow us to introduce ourselves, we are Electric Superbike Twente. A team of 14 multidisciplinary and motivated students working full-time towards our mission: “Reshape electric motor racing”. Racing has always been a frontier of technological innovation for mobility. We aim to push the racing standards by being part in the transition to electric motorcycle racing.
After Electric Superbike Twente was created in 2017, we’re the seventh generation of students designing and building our own motorcycles starting from scratch. Now working on our fifth-generation motor called Vector-ST. A powerhouse of a motor weighing 200kg with 214 horsepower, allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h within three seconds.
Besides just building motorcycles with high power, we aim on innovating electric racing. We noticed one of the biggest limitations of electric racing is the range, so Vector-ST was designed to tackle this problem by allowing for a battery-swapping system. With this system, an empty battery pack can be replaced with a full pack within 30 seconds during the race.
Preparing for the racing season
This new technology provides a lot of challenges and difficulties. Our previous team did a good job on designing and building Vector-ST. This year we focused on finishing the motor and extensively testing it to optimize systems and improve safety. Of course, we can keep talking about how amazing our motorcycle is but to convince the public, you have to race.
This brings us to our goal for this year, racing with Vector-ST while performing a battery swap. We aim on attending multiple races during the summer so we can improve the bike from data gathered from the races. Keep track of our Instagram or LinkedIn for more information about racing dates.
Electric Superbike Twente would like to thank Eurocircuits for providing high-quality and fast-manufactured printed circuit boards. Which allows us to quickly design and test our systems.
