Project
The Darmstadt Racing Team, abbreviated as DART Racing, speaks up once again. We are a 40-member student team that annually develops an electric, autonomous racing car. With this, we compete at the end of each season in international design competitions against other colleges and universities.
History
Since 2006, race cars have been manufactured in our workshop on the campus of TU Darmstadt. Until 2011, they were powered by combustion engines, then we switched to an electric motor. Since 2017, we have also been building an autonomously driving race car in parallel, and since 2020, both systems have been combined in one racing car.
Season 2023
This not only requires extraordinary discipline but also precise planning because implementing such a complex project in a limited time poses great challenges, especially for students who have not yet gained professional experience and usually have not built their own race car. With these challenges, the potential for learning grows, not only in a technical sense but also in understanding what it means to work with a team on a large project.
We were delighted to start the season with Eurocircuits. Mr. Doerr’s lecture on ‘Printed Circuit Board Manufacturing’ was not only enriching for our knowledge but also a very special opportunity to get to know the company itself.
Eurocircuits supports us and manufactures some boards for us, allowing us to gain initial experience with electrical requirements and components during our education.
It is even more pleasing that Eurocircuits has significantly helped us with their fast delivery times for rapid prototyping, especially during hectic phases.
As a concrete example, during our first events, we discovered a layout error in our Driverless board. But thanks to Eurocircuits’ fast delivery times, we were able to receive a second revision suitable for FS Czech after a few days.
Thanks in part to this action, we were able to achieve 2nd place overall in the Driverless Cup, marking the best team result in 10 years.
